Richard Li’s Claim to Fame

Forty-two year-old Richard Li is the second son of Li Ka-Shing. He was born in Hong Kong and was educated at Stanford University. Richard Li has built his company, Pacific Century Group by using capital from his 1993 sale of Asia’s premier satellite TV network, Star TV.

The Pacific Century Group is a holding company for Internet and property investments. Richard Li was able to bring Pacific Century Group Cyberworks (PCCW) to the public. During that time, its market cap topped $38 billion. In 1999, its total sales amounted up to $20 million. In addition, Richard Li was able to create a splash with a $38 billion winning bid for Hong Kong’s biggest telecom company, Cable & Wireless HKT.

Aside from his business responsibilities, Richard Li is also affiliated with various non-governmental organizations. He serves as the governor for the World Economic Forum for information Technologies and Telecommunications. He is also serves the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) International Councilors’ Group in Washington DC, International Advisory Board of the Center for International Development at Harvard University, and Global Information Infrastructure Commission and the United Nations Information and Communication Technology Advisory Group.

Even though he is a busy man, Richard Li is also able to secure time for his hobbies. During his time off, he shifts from being an entrepreneur into a scuba diver and a licensed pilot.

Nathaniel Lipman: View from the Top

With affinity marketer Trilegiant’s strong performance, inclusion in Forbes’ List of Top Private Companies and its acquisition of a prestigious ISO 27001 certification for its information security services, it must be quite a view from the top for CEO Nathaniel Lipman.

Nathaniel Lipman, President and CEO of Affinion Group, a global affinity marketing group composed of subsidiaries Trilegiant Corp., Trilegiant Corporation, Progeny Marketing Innovations and Trilegiant Loyalty Solutions, has had a fruitful career in consumer brand development and entertainment before he became a part of then Cendant Marketing Group (forerunner of Trilegiant) in 1999.

Lipman served as the Senior Executive Vice President for Planet Hollywood International from 1996 to 1999. Before this post, he was Senior Vice President and General Counsel of House of Blues Entertainment, Inc. He also previously served a legal post at The Walt Disney Company and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom.

The opportunity to pursue a career in marketing came to Lipman when he joined Cendant’s Alliance and Marketing Division as Senior Vice President for Business Development and Strategic Planning. From 2001 to 2002, he became Senior Executive Vice President of Trilegiant before becoming CEO of Cendant Marketing Group in 2004. In 2002, he became President and CEO of Trilegiant Corp., before the latter became a subsidiary of Affinion Group in 2005.
