Confused by EDTV vs HDTV? We don’t blame you. The number of acronyms floating about with regard to digital TV is frightening. What’s even more worrying is that very often they are used by people who have little or no knowledge about what they mean. If the person selling you doesn’t know the difference between EDTV vs HDTV, how are customers supposed to decide which TV or projector top go for?
In our guide below, we’ve tried to distill the technical info into as few words as possible and make it as straightforward to understand as we can.
To properly explain EDTV vs HDTV, we need to step back a bit. Traditional TV has 525 lines of video which are interlaced. Interlacing just means that every frame of video is split into two fields and each field is shown alternately. Although there are 525 lines in the signal, only 480 lines contain video, so it is sometimes referred to as 480i (480 lines interlaced). This is known as Standard Definition TV, or SDTV. While this has worked well enough for fifty years, as TV sets have got bigger and projectors more popular, the quality deficiencies have become increasingly apparent.
The ultimate answer to improving the quality of the image displayed on your TV is HDTV, however, as a step on the road to HDTV, the industry came up with Enhanced Definition TV, or EDTV. This system contains the same 480 lines as SDTV, but they are progressive scan. Hence EDTV is also known as 480p. Progressive scanning just means that instead of splitting the signal into two fields and showing half the lines at a time, all 480 lines of video are shown at once. This results in a noticeable improvement in the quality of video.
The bad news in relation to EDTV vs HDTV is that you need a completely new TV or projector to display both EDTV and HDTV. Most DVD players on the market today are progressive scan, meaning they output EDTV signals, however, in order to view the progressive scan picture in all its glory, you need a TV or projector capable of displaying it and that, unfortunately, means getting a new TV.
In terms of content, there is very limited TV content available in HDTV format, and there is still wrangling about the standard for HD DVDs. However, every DVD disc on the market can be displayed in EDTV right now.
Bottom line? Pretty much every HDTV projector or TV on the market today will display EDTV as well. So while there may not seem like a great deal of point in getting a new display for the limited HDTV content that is available today, it is worth it to watch your DVD collection in EDTV, the difference between SDTV and EDTV really is that big.

I am an avid sports bettor. I do enjoy gambling while watching the games. It keeps me hyperactive every time I’m in a winning streak or sometimes when I’m losing. Anyway, just recently I was browsing the internet on legality of gambling and how can the government get anything from all the gambling bettors. Soon enough I was able to find out the ways in which a sports bettor like me can be of help to the government. I have found out that all the gambling winnings that I am bound to get are taxable. This is not exclusive to big winnings. Thus, even if you get a meager amount from betting the winning horse, the prize that you will collect is already deducted with it’s necessary tax. Also, when it’s time to file your taxes, you will have to report your income with regards to your gambling leisure using the form 1040. Moreover itemizing all your winnings and losses in your gambling leisure can help you in deducting the amount of losses you have to the amount of winnings you claim. Thus, your tax for all your gambling may be a little smaller. But be sure to show all the necessary proof that you have lost or you have won a gambling event. Therefore, every time you are gambling in a sports, you have to make sure that all the receipts are collected and filed in its proper place. If you want to know more about taxes going on sports betting and gambling, you can check net which is filled with vast information on ridiculously anything under the sun. The Thursday March 30, 2006 basketball picks are listed below.
Best: Spurs @ Lakers: The Lakers won in San Antonio last time they played, making the LA w/o Shaq 1-6 against the Spurs. With the #1 spot on the line, Greg Popavich isn’t going to lose to the Lakers on national TV. Tim Duncan doesn’t demand big performances like Kobe does, but if Duncan scores 30 it’s an easy win. This might become a first round NBA playoffs matchup. The odds of the Lakers being able to sniff victory is low but we will try to pretend this game is competitive. Predicted Score: San Antonio wins 97-91
Runner-up: Suns @ Pacers: Things are aligning for the Suns to win. Indiana plays a back-to-back after returning from Atlanta, where they’ve struggled. The Suns however come in having played just once in the past five days. With Jermaine O’Neal out and Amare Stoudemire in, Foster and Pollard will really have to step up. Who knows what impact Amare will have on this game? Predicted Score: Phoenix wins 103-89 in an utter blowout on the road.
The Pacers have had a great season this year with Peja Stojakovic and might become a very intriguing team to watch in the playoffs. The Lakers are starting to play some really good basketball and their success and effort in the past week cannot be ignored either.

Pine smoked trout
Use a wire holder to get a smoky flavor when cooking trout. The idea is to be able to turn the meat over like the type made to hold hot dogs or hamburgers.
Cut server pine boughs and place them on your campfire. Lay the holder with your trout directly on top. Light the pine boughs, then the fire will sear, cook, and smoke your trout in about a minute before burning out. Just turn the holder over to sear the other side - repeat the process. A couple of boughs and less than a minute for each side is perfect for a half-pound trout.
Pickled Bluegills
Use only a stainless steel pan for good taste.
Cut fish into small pieces - you will need about 5 cups of fish. Soak in a quart of water and one cup of salt for 2 days. Rinse fish in cold water and drain. Then pour two cups of white vinegar over the fish and put it in the fridge for another 2 days. Pour it off.
Next, cook the following mix for five minutes and let cool
2 cups white vinegar
1 cups sugar
1 tsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. whole black pepper
1 tsp. whole allspice
1 tsp. whole cloves
4 bay leaves
After it cools pour it over the fish, and place slices of lemon and onions on top. Refrigerate for 5 days, then remove the spices and pack into jars. It makes three pints.
Sunfish

You’ll need:
1 lb. sunfish fillets

1 chopped tomato
cup water
cup white wine
Pinch salt

When you are all done skimming and filleting your sunfish, plant the carcasses deep in your tomato patch or rose bed. They make excellent fertilizer.
Fish Loaf
After you fillet your fish, don’t throw away the bones. There is still meat attached to them, and you can make a tasty dish with the leftovers. Begin by either baking the backbone scrapings in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven or steaming them over boiling water until they are cooked. While the fish is cooking, gather the following ingredients:
1 cup toasted break cubes
1 small onion, diced
2 stalks celery, diced
1 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
cup tomato sauce
cup grated cheddar cheese
Paprika
1 cups cooked, flaked fish (from the scrapings)
Mix all ingredients except paprika and one-quarter cup of the grated cheese in a large bowl. Work in the flaked fish until a uniform texture is attained. Spoon the mixture into a 9X5-inch bread pan and shape it into a loaf. Spread the remaining grated cheese over the loaf and sprinkle paprika on top. Bake the loaf at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for one hour. Let it cool five to 10 minutes before cutting.
Add chili peppers or hot pepper sauce as desired.
Baked Ciscoes
10 ciscoes, filleted
1 tbsps. Lemon juice
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup light cream
1 tsps. Flour
